15 Job Interview Tips That Actually Work in Bangladesh – 2026 Guide

Why Most Interviews Fail Before You Walk In
In Bangladesh, 73% of candidates are rejected in the first 8 minutes — not because of skills, but because of poor first impression, weak “Tell me about yourself”, and zero company research. This guide fixes all three.
Your resume got you the call — see our standard resume guide. Now let’s convert that call into an offer.
Before the Interview — 48 Hour Prep
- Research the company deeply. Revenue, CEO name, latest news, 2 competitors, 1 product you would improve — and say how. 3 pages of notes minimum.
- Re-read the circular 3 times. Highlight 8 keywords. Prepare 1 STAR story for each.
- Prepare your “Tell me about yourself” — 90 seconds max. Present → Past → Future formula:
“I am currently a backend engineer at Tech Solutions leading payment APIs for 120k users. Before that I completed my BSc in CSE from BRAC. I am excited about this fintech role because…” - Dress one level above the office. Multinational: full suit. Local corporate: formal shirt + blazer. Startup: smart casual, clean shoes always.
- Print 3 copies of your resume, plus degrees, NID copy, and 2 passport photos in a clear folder.
The STAR Method — Answer Any Behavioural Question
Situation — Task — Action — Result (+ number)
Q: “Tell me about a time you solved a difficult problem.”
A: “At Pathao (S), our checkout API failed during Eid peak (T). I restructured the Redis cache layer and added circuit breakers (A), cutting failed orders from 2.4% to 0.3%, saving ৳14 lakh monthly (R).”
15 Interview Tips That Win Offers
- Arrive 20 minutes early. Use 10 min to review your notes in the car/lobby.
- Phone on silent. No, not vibrate — silent.
- Firm handshake, eye contact, “Assalamu Alaikum / Good morning” with a smile.
- Sit straight, hands visible, lean slightly forward — shows engagement.
- Answer in 45–90 seconds. If you talk over 2 minutes, you’re rambling.
- Never badmouth a previous employer. Say: “I learned a lot there, now I’m ready for the next challenge in…”
- Bring numbers: “Increased sales 35%”, “managed ৳12 lakh budget”, “team of 5”.
- Ask 2–3 smart questions at the end: “What does success look like in the first 90 days?” “What is the biggest challenge the team is facing right now?”
- Salary question? Never give a number first. Say: “I’m open — could you share the budgeted range for this role?” If forced: give a researched band, e.g. “Based on my 3 years MERN experience and Dhaka market data, I’m looking at ৳65,000–80,000 — flexible based on total compensation.”
- Send a thank-you email within 4 hours. 2–3 sentences. 40% of Bangladeshi candidates never do — you instantly stand out.
- Practice out loud. Record yourself on your phone. Fix filler words (“umm”, “actually”, “like”).
- Bring a pen and notepad. Writing down the interviewer’s name = respect points.
- If you don’t know an answer: “That’s a great question — I haven’t encountered that exact scenario, here’s how I would approach it…” Honesty + structure beats bluffing.
- Mirror the interviewer’s energy — calm with calm, energetic with energetic.
- Follow up once after 5 working days if no response. One polite email only.
